Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus criminal activity reported to or observed by The University of Texas At Austin Police Department Patrol Officers between 08/28/17 and 09/03/2017 1800 Block of N. IH-35 Service Road Driving While Intoxicated (Open Alcoholic Container in vehicle)/Possession of Substance in Penalty Group 2A: A UTPD officer happened upon a vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway. Upon closer inspection, the officer discovered that the driver was asleep at the wheel. The officer carefully woke the driver and began a DWI investigation. The driver was ultimately taken into custody and transported to jail. A search incidental to arrest yielded an open beer can as well as edible marijuana. Occurred on 08/31/17 at 3:32 am. 1800 Block of N. IH-35 Service Road Driving While Intoxicated with Child Passenger: A UTPD officer observed a vehicle commit a series of moving violations. The officer initiated a traffic stop but the vehicle continued traveling for two blocks. When the vehicle finally stopped, the officer observed that there were two adults and two children inside the vehicle. He also noted that the driver, an adult and parent to the children, exhibited signs of intoxication. After the usual tests, the driver was taken into custody. The children were released to another parent. Occurred on 09/01/17 at 9:10 pm. 2300 Block of Robert Dedman Drive Public Intoxication: UTPD officers responded to a report of a suspicious person near the stadium during the football game. The person was said to be making threatening comments. Officers quickly located, detained and identified the suspect. The suspect was intoxicated to the point of being a danger to himself or others, was taken into custody and transported to the local jail. Occurred on 08/29/17 at 8:29 pm. 27th Street Garage 2600 University Avenue Public Intoxication/ Fictitious License or Certificate: UTPD officers responded to a report of a woman passed out on the ground near the garage. The officers responded to the area and found the unconscious person. She was face down in the grass and officers observed that she had sustained minor injuries, most likely from falling to the ground. The suspect exhibited signs of alcohol intoxication and was found to have a fake ID. She was taken into custody and transported to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 09/01/17 at 05:18 am West Mall 2304 Whitis Avenue Assault with Bodily Injury: During a protest on campus, an individual struck another individual in the head causing a laceration. Officers quickly located the suspect and took him into custody. He was transported to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 09/01/17 at 11:32 am. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 777 calls for service (224 of those were alarms), performed 117 traffic stops, made 13 criminal arrests, wrote 16 citations, conducted 45 foot patrols and investigated 9 welfare concerns between 08/28/17 and 09/03/2017.
