Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus criminal activity reported to or observed by The University of Texas At Austin Police Department Patrol Officers between 09/11/17 and 09/18/17. The Citizen Police Academy (CPA) gives the public a better understanding of UTPD through insightful information of its operations and personnel. It also provides department personnel a chance to interact with and to increase the rapport with the community they serve. More information can be found at 2600 Block of Manor Road Possession of Substance in Penalty Group 1 (Methamphetamine), Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving While License Invalid without Proof of Insurance, Disregard Official Traffic Control Device, Operation of Vehicle with Expired License Plate: A UTPD officer observed a vehicle, which was a traveling in the bicycle lane list into a lane of oncoming traffic. The officer stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver. The officer determined that the driver's license was invalid and that the vehicle was not insured. The officer also observed several empty small baggies, burnt marijuana cigarettes and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia. The officer also learned that the driver had three warrants for his arrest. The driver was taken into custody and transported to Travis County Central Booking. An inventory of the vehicle yielded marijuana, methamphetamine and additional drug paraphernalia. Occurred on 9/12/17 at 1:00 am. 2514 Guadalupe Street Evading Arrest or Detention, Resisting Arrest or Detention, Possession of Substance in Penalty Group 2 (THC Oil), Possession of Substance in Penalty Group 1 (Cocaine), Public Intoxication: A UTPD officer observed an individual fall and strike his face on the ground while walking on Guadalupe Street. The officer approached the gentleman and offered assistance. Before long, the officer determined that the suspect was highly intoxicated and as a result, was likely a danger to himself or others. The officers explained that they could release the intoxicated man to a sober party but to no avail. When the officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, he fled the scene on foot. Officers pursued and after a short run, they caught up with the man. The suspect kicked at officers and physically resisted their attempts to place him into custody. Despite his attempts at resistance, the offender was taken into custody and transported to Travis County Jail. Occurred on 9/16/17 at 12:47 am. Dell Seton Medical Center 1500 Red River Assault on a Public Servant: A highly intoxicated patient kicked a member of the medical staff in the face while they were trying to render aid. After being discharged from the hospital, the suspect was taken into custody and transported to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 09/17/17 at 04:40 am. 200 Block of W. 15th Street Unlawful Carrying of Weapons, Driving while License Invalid, Possession of Marijuana: A UTPD officer observed a vehicle fail to stop at a red light. The officer stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver. The officer detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and would ultimately find a small amount of the substance. The driver had an invalid driver's license and was found to be in possession of a firearm. The driver was taken into custody and transported to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 09/18/17 at 12:29 am. 2500 Block of San Antonio Street Driving While Intoxicated: A UTPD Sergeant observed a vehicle traveling the wrong way on a one way street. The sergeant, who was later assisted by officers, stopped the vehicle and identified the driver. Officers would go on to determine that the driver was operating the vehicle while intoxicated. He was taken into custody and transported to Travis County Central Booking. Occurred on 09/17/17 at 7:50 pm. Qdoba Restaurant 2402 Guadalupe Street Failure to Identify, Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor, Public Intoxication, Fictitious License or Certificate: A UTPD officer found an individual passed out in the entryway to the restaurant. Officers reported that the man, who was under 21 years of age, was difficult to wake up and exhibited signs of intoxication. When asked about his identity, the man gave a false date of birth. Officers would ultimately find several IDs on the suspect's person. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the local jail. Occurred on 09/15/17 at 03:22 am. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 667 calls for service (166 of those were alarms), performed 123 traffic stops, made 19 criminal arrests, conducted 56 foot patrols and responded to 14 welfare concerns between 09/11/17 and 09/18/17.
