Crime Prevention Tip Keep belongings out of sight when you park your car Remember, property thefts are the No. 1 crime at the university, but theft often can be averted by eliminating temptation. Don’t leave your valuables unattended. Make sure to place valuables out of sight. Always close car windows, lock all doors and take your keys with you. Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus criminal activity reported to or observed by The University of Texas At Austin Police Department Patrol Officers between Sunday 7/29/18 and Saturday 08/04/18. 500 W 26th St. Driving While Intoxicated; Possession of Drug Controlled Substance: A patrolling UTPD Officer observed a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the street with no headlights. The vehicle nearly collided with the officer’s patrol car. The vehicle then turned the wrong way onto San Antonio Street. UTPD officers initiated a traffic stop. The driver, who smelled heavily of alcohol, performed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests before being arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. He was searched upon arrest, and on his person was a bag of powder a field test showed to be cocaine. Occurred 7/29/2018, at 2:59 A.M. Littlefield Fountain, 2100 University Ave Criminal Trespass: A patrolling UTPD officer observed a man walking in the Littlefield Fountain. Upon investigation, the Officer determined the man has been issued nine Criminal Trespass Warnings and convicted multiple times for trespassing on the UT Campus. The subject was arrested for Criminal Trespass and transported to Travis County Jail. Due to recent changes in the Texas Penal Code, and the man’s previous trespassing convictions, the grade of this offense was enhanced to Class A Misdemeanor. Occurred 7/30/2018, at 11:18 P.M. Frank Dobie House, 703 E. Dean Keeton St. Public Intoxication: A patrolling UTPD officer responded to a report of a woman lying on the sidewalk and crying. The woman, who was lying next to her car, was wearing wet clothing, which she claimed was a result of playing in a sprinkler. Her speech was incoherent and she displayed many other symptoms of intoxication. The woman admitted to using narcotics, prescription medication, and alcohol earlier in the night. To ensure the woman’s safety, she was placed under arrest for Public Intoxication. The woman was transported to Travis County Jail. Occurred at 8/3/2018 at 8:33 A.M. Colorado Apartments, 2501 Lake Austin Boulevard Water Rescue: UTPD was notified by the Austin Fire Department of a water rescue in progress on Lady Bird Lake near the Colorado apartments. A kayak with three passengers capsized, separating a father from his two children. APD Lake and Park units and APD’s Air One helicopter unit conducted rescue operations, and the Texas Rowing Team assisted with access to UT’s dock. All subjects were safely located and reunited. Occurred on 8/4/2018 at 7:27 P.M. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 178 Alarm Activations, 1 Abandoned 911 Calls, 77 Foot Patrols, 82 Traffic Violations, 3 Welfare Concerns and 20 Suspicious Activity Reports between Sunday 7/29/18 and Saturday 08/04/18.
