Crime Prevention Tip of the Week: Don’t walk home alone. Call SURE Walk at 512-232-WALK (9255) and volunteers will meet you anywhere on campus and escort you to your destination. If you find yourself in a situation where you cannot get home safely, always remember you can also call UTPD at 512-471-4441 + 9, and we will help you find a safe way home. Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus criminal activity reported to or observed by The University of Texas At Austin Police Department Patrol Officers between Monday 10/07/18 and Saturday 10/13/18. 10/07/2018, at 1:13 p.m., 2300 Guadalupe (Artisan’s Market in West Campus) Warrant Arrest for Possession of Marijuana; An officer was patrolling off-campus under the UTPD West Campus Initiative, where UTPD officers patrol the streets and alleys in the West Campus area, including the Drag. The officer recognized a homeless person sitting in the sidewalk. The officer knew this man was a suspect from a previous assault. This man saw the officer and began walking away abruptly. While doing so, the man accidentally dropped some money on the ground. The officer retrieved the money and caught up with the man and returned it to him. While asking the man why he left so quickly, the officer learned that the man was wanted on a warrant due to not appearing in court for a possession of marijuana citation. The man was arrested and transported to Travis County Jail. 10/10/2018, at 10:31 p.m., 510 Deloss Dodds (Performing Arts Center) Theft of Service; Assault by Contact; A person without a ticket attempted to enter the Performing Arts Center, where a concert was in progress. The man falsely claimed he had left his belongings in his seat, but he couldn’t produce his ticket due to his phone’s battery being dead. Staff offered to escort the man to his seat to retrieve his property, but explained he’d have to leave once that happened. Once inside, the man took off running through crowds of patrons, pushing several people. After a brief pursuit on foot, a UTPD officer already on scene caught the man and arrested him for theft of service, as he had entered the concert without paying, evading, and assault by contact due to a complaint from a staff member who was elbowed (without injury). The man was transported to Travis County Jail without further incident. 10/13/2018, at 8:58 p.m., 1710 Red River (Nursing Building) Criminal Trespass; A UTPD officer on patrol at the nursing building was asked by an apparently homeless woman if she could have a ride if she “passed the test.” Though unable to ascertain what this meant, the officer was able to determine that this woman had six previous criminal trespass warnings, forbidding her from being on UT Austin’s property. He arrested the woman for Criminal Trespass, with an enhancement to Class A Misdemeanor, due to a previous conviction at a place of higher education. She was transported to Travis County Jail without further incident. *The University of Texas Police Department responded to 744 calls for service. 247 Alarm Activations, 39 Suspicious Activity Investigations, 76 Foot Patrols, 24 Traffic Violations, and 9 Welfare Concerns between Monday 10/07/18 and Saturday 10/13/18.
