Crime Prevention Tip of the Week: There are more than 120 yellow emergency phones across campus. If you need police assistance, push the blue button on the phone to immediately alert UTPD. The police will know which phone you are calling from, so they will know where you are. You can also text 911, but only text, not multimedia. Always remember to dial 911 any time you feel unsafe. Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus criminal activity reported to or observed by The University of Texas At Austin Police Department Patrol Officers between Sunday 11/04/18 and Saturday 11/11/18. 11/07/2018, at 12:09 p.m., 2200 San Antonio St 11/08/2018, at 1:26 p.m., 1700 Guadalupe St 11/10/2018, at 2:58 p.m., 2100 Speedway Medical Emergencies: At all three of these times and places, a UT Student operating a rental scooter. Each time, the student lost control of the scooter and fell. Each time, the student’s head received abrasions. Each time, the student was not wearing a helmet. Austin/Travis County EMS provided medical treatment, and the students were respectively transported to Dell Seton for further treatment. Each time, the student would have saved a lot of time by slowing down. UTPD recommends all students, staff, and faculty wear a helmet when operating a scooter, requires that all scooters on campus obey traffic signs, yield to pedestrians, and stay off sidewalks. 11/09/2018, at 9:23 p.m., 1900 San Jacinto Blvd Public Intoxication: UTPD officers were dispatched to a report of a man running across traffic San Jacinto Blvd. UTPD Officers arrived and found a man walking in the middle of the street. As officers spoke to the man, they observed a green substance in his mouth. They also observed the man’s behavior become more and more agitated and bizarre, as more of the green substance appeared on his mouth. The man was arrested for public intoxication, because he was a danger to himself and others by running into traffic. He had no contraband on his person. The man was not medically fit to be in jail in this condition, and was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center for treatment of the unknown substance he had ingested. 11/06/2018, at 3:53 p.m., 2624 Whitis Ave (Almetrius Duren Hall) Theft of Bicycle, Outside Agency Warrant: A UT Facilities employee flagged down by a UT Facilities employee. The Facilities employee had observed a man use bolt cutters to steal a bicycle, and told officers his description and direction of travel. UTPD officers had no trouble located the suspect and were able to determine he had indeed committed a theft of a bicycle. The man also had a warrant for robbery, and was in possession of a firearm. This man was taken to Travis County Jail without further incident, and thanks to the reporting party, a gun was taken out of the hands of a criminal. Remember, if you give UTPD timely information that leads to the arrest of a bike thief, you’re entitled to pizza on UTPD under our “Hungry for Justice” program. *The University of Texas Police Department responded to 742 calls for service. 268 Alarm Activations, 27 Suspicious Activity Investigations, 138 Foot Patrols, 52 Traffic Violations, and 9 Welfare Concerns between Sunday 11/04/18 and Saturday 11/11/18.
