Report for 11/25/2018

Crime Prevention Tip of the Week: • Keep a sober friend with you to provide sound judgment and a safe ride home. • Always let at least one person know where you are at all times. A quick text works! • Never consume a drink you did not see made, or that you left unattended for any period of time. Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus criminal activity reported to or observed by The University of Texas At Austin Police Department Patrol Officers between Sunday 11/18/18 and Saturday 11/24/18. 11/17/2018, at 12:40 p.m., 2400 Robert Dedman Blvd. Medical Emergency: A UTPD Officer observed a student sitting in the street. Upon further investigation, the officer observed abrasions on the student’s elbow and knee, and a rental scooter lying in the roadway nearby. The officer observed no safety defects with the scooter or roadway, but was not able to determine the cause of the apparent accident. The student was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center UT for treatment. 11/20/2018, at 6:00 a.m., 2500 Guadalupe St. Driving While License Invalid, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Local Warrants: A UTPD officer saw a vehicle with too much dirt on the license plate to read, and when he was able to read the plate, he found the vehicle registration expired six months ago. The officer conducted a traffic stop. The driver told the officer he had a pipe he used to smoke marijuana in the center console. While recovering that pipe, the officer determined that the driver had twelve active suspensions on his driver’s license and two warrants for his arrest from another law enforcement agency. The man was arrested for those warrants and transported to the Travis County Jail without further incident. 11/25/2018, at 7:42 p.m., 2100 block of I-35 Frontage Rd Public Intoxication: A UTPD Officer observed a man and a woman yelling at each other near a car stopped on the frontage road. The officer separated these people and detected a heavy odor of alcohol from the man, who was finding the effects of gravity challenging as he swayed back and forth. Upon further investigation, the officer learned that the couple were on Sixth Street when the man left the bar intoxicated, to walk home. Home was over 15 miles from Sixth Street, so the woman, who was not intoxicated, began looking for the man to ensure his safety. The man had strongly disagreed with the idea of riding home. Due to the man’s belligerence and poor decision making, the officer found that the man was a danger to himself, and therefore arrested him for Public Intoxication. The Officer then took the man to the Austin Sobering Center, and pursued no criminal charges. When the man regained his sobriety he was given information on addiction and alcohol safety, and was free to go home, even by foot. *The University of Texas Police Department responded to 465 calls for service. 146 Alarm Activations, 80 Foot Patrols, 52 Traffic Violations, and 15 Welfare Concerns between Sunday 11/18/18 and Saturday 11/24/18.
