Our officers will come to you! https://police.utexas.edu/community/presentations You may also request a private group training for our self-defense program, RAD https://police.utexas.edu/services/rad. 11/12/2019, 11:18 p.m., 2604 Guadalupe Street Drug Report: An employee at Roppolo’s Pizza informed an officer that an individual came inside the restaurant looking for his drugs that he said he misplaced. The workers later found the substance while they were cleaning to get it ready for closing. The officer took custody of a container holding what appeared to be black tar heroin. The container was seized as evidence. Safety Tip: Finding a substance you have reason to think is an illegal drug can be stressful, but the two things to remember are not to touch or smell the substance. Hollywood may show someone tasting or smelling drugs to verify what it is, but this is actually very dangerous. Calling a non-emergency number such as 311 if you are off campus or the UTPD administrative line 512-471-4441, ext. 9 can get an officer there to ensure the substance is handled safely and properly. Treat drug paraphernalia like hazardous medical waste and if you do dispose of it, use gloves and a sharps container where appropriate, or contact UTPD for help. 11/13/19, 8:48 p.m., Frank Erwin Center Disturbance: A non-UT subject reported that a beer was thrown in her face. The reporting party was covered in liquid. Officers spoke with both parties individually. The accused said that the two got into an argument and she threw her beer because she thought the reporting party was about to throw hers. All involved in the incident were ejected from the event. No charges were filed. Safety Tip: Alcohol is a common factor in being asked to leave a UT Austin event. When having a good time, have a strategy for how to prevent being part of a disturbance. Consider the concourse area to be a “chill out space” and if an argument begins, take a break and give the other party a break for a few minutes. Walking away is simply the wiser course of action in these situations. If you feel unsafe, inform event staff, security, or UTPD. Know your limits and take steps to reduce how much alcohol you consume. Your judgment is the first thing alcohol will compromise, so determine how much alcohol you will have before you drink and stick to the plan. Finally, having a sober friend in your group makes situations inherently safer. 11/16/19, early morning hours, 6th Street Theft: A UT student reported that she went from the “Waller Creek Show” to a bar on 6th Street. She saw her phone at midnight, and when she checked for her phone again at 2 a.m. to summon a ride share, it was missing from a zippered compartment. She believed someone took her phone out of her purse. The phone appeared to have been shut off immediately as she was never able to get a location from Apple’s recovery software. She made a theft report. Safety Tip: Many of us rely on our phone’s security features, or the safety of crowds, but it’s important to be mindful of our property. Thieves in crowded areas can reach into purses or bump into you while an accomplice “pickpockets” a purse targeting a phone. Follow your instincts and try to locate your valuables in such a way that they would be difficult to access. You can register any property with a serial number on our website: https://police.utexas.edu/services/property. This will help us get your property back to you if located. This Campus Watch was prepared by Officers J. Tesauro and D. Farahnak Don’t forget to connect with UTPD via Twitter and Facebook, and remember you can reach out to your campus District Representative with any non-emergency concerns or questions you have.
