If you report a crime in progress, or take emergency action that saves a life, you too may qualify for a free pizza. Concerned for their safety, the reporting student walked with the intoxicated subject to JES to ensure they got home safely. When they arrived at the dorm room, the intoxicated student laid down and passed out. The Good Samaritan was unable to wake the student and called 911 for assistance. UTPD and EMS responded and determined that the intoxicated student was not able to care for themselves. The student was transported to the Sobering Center. The student was not charged for consumption of alcohol by a minor. Safety Tip: In this case, a student recognized that one of their fellow longhorns needed assistance getting home. The student then realized that more help was needed and called 911. UTPD will always attempt to find a sober friend or roommate to take care of an intoxicated person. In the event that this is unsuccessful, the Austin Sobering Center gives us another resource. A fun night out can turn dangerous when too much alcohol is involved. When going out, go with a group of friends and stick together throughout the night. Always have a plan of how you will get home and stick to the plan. A staff member observed a male subject sleeping on a table outside with an open container of alcohol. The staff member woke the sleeping subject and asked them to leave the area. When the subject awoke, they became verbally aggressive toward the staff member. The staff member immediately called 911 and gave a full description of the subject to dispatch. Responding officers were able to locate the subject and immediately noticed multiple signs of intoxication. It was determined that they were intoxicated to the point that they were a danger to themselves or others. The subject was not UT affiliated and was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning. https://www.healthyhorns.utexas.edu/amnesty.html Safety Tip: If you ever encounter a suspicious person or feel unsafe, call 911. Give the best description possible. This will increase the chances of officers being able to identify the person.
